Joe and I went for our first Scotch Tasting at The Scotch Whisky Experience (located in Edinburgh, Scotland on the Royal Mile up by the Edinburgh Castle). You can book a tour online or do a walk in. Our Silver Tour lasted about an hour and was the most basic for beginners, but they offer a wide variety of classes, trainings, tastings and food pairings. Ask about their Student and Senior discounts!

You start off with a barrel ride to learn the process of making and distilling the Scotch, then move into a room with a projection where your tour guide teaches you about the individual regions where the Scotch is made throughout Scotland. You get a card to smell the different elements of the Scotch in those regions too so you can make a more informed decision for your tasting.

Finally, you move into the tasting room where you’re taught how to taste the Scotch. It’s really amazing to be surrounded by such a mass collection while doing the tasting.

The Scotch Whisky Experience is assessed under the Green Tourism Business Scheme and devoted to being environmentally friendly. 🙂

Our Tour Guide was Shannon and she was awesome!
